Exercise Needs
The Weimaraner needs lots of strenuous exercise. This breed should not be confined, because it can be destructive if not exercised. This dog loves to romp, hunt and play ball - and may bark if bored. Weimaraner's generally prefer to be inside with their family. However, this breed will appreciate an active family and lots of exercise.
Grooming Needs
The Weimaraner's short, shiny coat is easy to care for. Brush once weekly and bathe only when necessary or use dry shampoo.
Temperament
Dominant, energetic, enthusiastic, determined and versatile, the Weimaraner requires plenty of companionship and attention. Although this breed can be difficult to train, never use harsh discipline. Weimaraners are best motivated by treats and praise.
Compatibility with Kids
May be overly active for smaller children or older, feeble adults. Should do well with other dogs. Does not do well with cats.
History
These dogs were used in Germany to hunt large game, then birds. The breed's ancestors are the Red Schweisshund, a tracking dog, and the German Shorthair Pointer. Breeding of these dogs was closely monitored.
