This breed is good-natured, obedient and easy to train. The Lapponian Herder's high intelligence level requires frequent mental and physical stimulation. If a Lapponian Herder is not used for working purposes, then it will require games and training to occupy its mind.

History
The Lapponian Herder descends from the Finnish Lapphund and the German Shepherd. The breed was originally used as a reindeer herder until the advent of snowmobiles. With rising fuel costs, the breed is seeing a revival, as the Finnish are going back to using dogs for herding to save money.
