History

The Lapponian Herder descends from the Finnish Lapphund and the German Shepherd. The breed was originally used as a reindeer herder until the advent of snowmobiles. With rising fuel costs, the breed is seeing a revival, as the Finnish are going back to using dogs for herding to save money.
