Spanish Greyhound

Also know as: Galgo Espanol

Group: Hound

Origin: Spain (Ancient Times)

Today's Role: Companion Dog

History and Facts: The Spanish Greyhound is probably a descendant of the Sloughi. This breed accompanied the Moors when they occupied Spain more 1,000 years ago. Although the breed is named "Greyhound," it is a different breed, with a unique lineage.

Temperament / Behavior
The Spanish Galgo (Greyhound) is often referred to as independent, but a tad timid. They are an aloof breed that needs room to exercise, may to be somewhat snappy and occasionally, difficult to train.

Breed-Related Health Concerns
Excellent health record. No known hereditary conditions.

Special Needs
Exercise: Still used today as a field and racing dog, the Spanish Greyhound is a running breed. You will need to provide plenty of exercise. Your Spanish Greyhounds will appreciate a safe, secured area in which they can run free.

Grooming: No special grooming requirements.
