History and Facts: The Samoyed originated in the Siberian region of Russia, where it was used as a sled dog among the once nomadic Samoyed tribe. They were imported to England in the late 1800s are now a popular breed throughout the world.

Temperament / Behavior
The Samoyed is a sweet-natured family dog that is especially gentle with children, other pets and strangers. The breed is vocal and communicates by barking. Samoyeds tend to have a stubborn streak and can be difficult to train. Early socialization is important.

Hip dysplasia; retinal problems

Special Needs
Exercise: The Samoyed needs vigorous exercise and long daily walks or play sessions each day. If this breed becomes bored, it tends to bark and dig.

Grooming: The Samoyed is a wooly breed that needs grooming several times per week; more often during shedding season.
