Temperament / Behavior
The Old English Sheepdog is a gentle, well-mannered, fun-loving family dog. However, early socialization and training is needed. The breed thrives on human companionship. Although protective of its household, the Old English Sheepdog interacts well with strangers. Without proper attention, this breed can become unmanageable and stubborn.

Breed-Related Health Concerns
Owners must have ability to meet the breeds high exercise and grooming needs. Breed-related health problems include hip dysplasia; cataracts; progressive retinal atrophy; cervical vertebral instability; bloat; deafness.

Special Needs
Exercise: The Old English Sheepdog is a herding dog that needs long daily play sessions and walks. The breed is best suited to a home with a yard.

Grooming: The Old English Sheepdog needs extensive daily grooming in order to look its best. If neglected even for a short time, the shaggy coat will mat and / or accumulate debris.
