Old English Bulldogge

Also know as: No Nicknames.

Group: Non-sporting

Origin: United States (1900s)

Today's Role: Companion Dog

History and Facts: This relatively new breed was created in 1971 by David Leavitt. He was unhappy with the breathing problems of the English Bulldog. As a result, he crossed half English Bulldog with half Bullmastiff, Pit Bull and American Bulldog to develop the Old English Bulldogge.

Temperament / Behavior
This breed is friendly around family and friends but aggressive towards strangers. They can be intimidating to anyone threatening their family or property. Obedience is not this fearless dog's strong suit, making it a poor choice for first-time pet owners.

Breed-Related Health Concerns
Hip dysplasia; bloat; tail deformities

Special Needs
Exercise: The Old English Bulldogge should not be encouraged to jump or exercise vigorously as puppies. They will maintain good muscle tone with light exercise.

Grooming: No special grooming requirements.
