History and Facts: The Hygenhund is exclusive to Norway and was created in the 1830s by crossing Holstein Hounds from northern Germany with local Norwegian hounds. Today the breed is kept for hunting small game and is rarely kept strictly as a pet.

Temperament / Behavior
Lively with great endurance, this breed is more popular as a hunter than as a companion. Hygenhunds are reliable watchdogs and get along with other dogs fairly well. It's need for exercise and activity makes it most suitable for rural living. The breed is happy to live outside all the time. Hygenhunds have a tendency to snap or bite.

Excellent health record. No known hereditary conditions.

Special Needs
Exercise: Due to its hunting nature, the Hygenhund requires vigorous exercise. Long walks, runs or play sessions are recommended for this breed.

Grooming: No special grooming requirements.
