History and Facts: The English Springer Spaniel was developed in the 1600s to hunt and retrieve pheasants.

Temperament / Behavior
English Springer Spaniels tend to be playful, affectionate and trusting dogs. The breed is eager-to-please and tends to do well in obedience classes. English Springer Spaniels love children and other animals, but tend to warm up slowly to strangers. This breed craves human companionship and can become destructive if left alone for long periods of time.

Breed-Related Health Concerns
Progressive retinal atrophy; entropion; glaucoma; hip dysplasia; ear infections. Be sure to obtain your Spaniel from a reputable breeder.

Special Needs
Exercise: The English Springer Spaniel needs short, brisk walks and / or play sessions several times per day. The English Springer Spaniel enjoys playing fetch, romps in the water and runs in open spaces.

Grooming: Brushing several times per week to prevent matting is required for your English Springer Spaniel.
