History and Facts: Believed to be an ancient breed, the Scottish Deerhound could only be owned by nobility during the 16th century. The breed has had several bouts with near extinction, but still remains a high quality breed.

Temperament / Behavior
The Deerhound is an easy-going, mellow companion. The breed gets along well with children but may be wary of strangers. Although independent, the Deerhound attempts to please and can be extremely sensitive. This breed thrives on human companionship and will prefer a soft bed where it can stretch and lounge indoors.

Special Needs
Exercise: The Deerhound is an active breed that requires several long walks and play sessions per day to avoid behavioral problems. This breed enjoys being able to run in an open, secured area.

Grooming: The Deerhound requires brushing several times per week.
