Temperament

Plott Hounds tend to be eager-to-please, loyal and intelligent. Although it's generally a consistent breed, there are some differences in temperament between the coonhound variety and the one developed to hunt big game. The Plott Hound is a courageous, but somewhat stubborn, breed with plenty of stamina. It is rarely kept as just a companion dog.

These dogs are reputed to be the best bear hounds in the world and the only breed known to have been developed in North Carolina. This breed is rarely seen outside of the southern U.S.
