Exercise Needs

Due to its nature as a working dog, the Jamthund requires frequent exercise. Long walks, jogging, romps and play sessions are recommended for this breed. This dog also enjoys activities such as sledding, hunting, or accompanying its owner on hikes and snowshoe adventures.

Temperament

This breed is high-spirited and loveable. The Jamthund has a friendly demeanor typical of most Spitz breeds. It makes a great family companion, but a poor guard dog.

History

Now considered Sweden's national dog, the breed has a long history as a working dog and companion in the Scandinavian region. Originally used in bear and elk hunting, the breed became adaptable over time and also has been used as a shepherd, sled dog, watchdog and army dog.
