Exercise Needs

Bulldogs are a pretty inactive breed that will only need a short, daily walk.

Grooming Needs

As with other wrinkled breeds, the Bulldog's facial wrinkles will need cleaned several times per week.

Temperament

Although Bulldogs are often portrayed as aggressive animals, the breed is really patient, calm and gentle. Bulldogs are fairly sociable and interact well with children, as well as other pets (dogs and cats). Bulldogs are fairly sedentary animals that like to sleep. While the breed does not make good watchdogs, it tends to be extremely protective.

History

The Bulldog was originally bred for bullbaiting and dogfighting, so it was a vicious breed. However, these characteristic were eventually considered undesirable and the dogs were bred to encourage a gentle nature.

Pet Facts

The Bulldog is one of the only breeds to have standards based on proportions, rather than measurements. These are a stocky, muscular dogs with short legs. Known for its short, stub nose and frowny facial wrinkles, the English Bulldog comes in a variety of colors (except black). The most common are brindle, red brindle, fawn and white.
