Spanish Hounds

Also know as: Sabueso Espanol

Group: Hound

Origin: Spain (Middle Ages)

Today's Role: Companion Dog

History and Facts: The breed is probably descended from the Mastiff, as well as the Bloodhound and extinct White Talbot. It was isolated on the Iberian Peninsula, so the breed remained pure.

Temperament / Behavior
This breed is a work dog that is used to working alone, rather than in a pack. It should be introduced to children and strangers only with caution. Even though it was not bred with the purpose in mind, this breed's temperament often makes it a good guard / watch dog.

Breed-Related Health Concerns
Excellent health record. No known hereditary conditions.

Special Needs
Exercise: The Spanish Hound is an active breed that requires several long walks and play sessions per day.

Grooming: No special grooming requirements.
