History and Facts: Unlike many other Spaniels, the English Toy Spaniel was never developed as a hunting dog. Around since the 1600s, these were a favorite lap dog of English aristocracy.
Temperament / Behavior
The English Toy Spaniel is an extremely gentle, amiable, calm, affectionate breed that gets along well with children and other pets. Unlike other toy breeds, the English Toy Spaniel tends to be quiet. This breed trains well with positive reinforcement and praise. Can be somewhat stubborn, but is playful and devoted to its owners.
Breed-Related Health Concerns
Patellar luxation; umbilical hernia; cataracts; heart defects; early tooth loss; laxy tongue. Sensitive to anesthesia.
Special Needs
Exercise: The English Toy Spaniel is not an active breed. Although this dog enjoys short walks and playing fetch, it prefers to lounge.
Grooming: The English Toy Spaniel needs bi-weekly brushing.
