The Dog Days

For the Love of Bil-Jac

"I just wanted to let your company know that my dog just went in for her annual check-up and our vet was blown away by her results. He said for a 16-year-old dog there was none of the usual diseases that affect her age. Except for some joint problems there was nothing else wrong with her.

A big "thank you" to your company because she has been eating Bil-Jac since she was a pup!"

Training Tips: A Well-Behaved Dog

Do you need help keeping your dog well-behaved this summer? Animal trainer and longtime friend of Bil-Jac, Joel Silverman is just the man for the job. Ask Joel for training tips and you could be featured in our next Best Friends Club. Here are some tips from Joel for keeping your pup well-behaved without having to put him on a short leash.

Q: How do I get my dog to stop jumping on guests?
A: This is probably one of the most common problems a dog owner will have with their dog. The good news is that it is all about understanding the series of events leading up to the jump.

Here are a few things you’ll want to remember:
No longer give the dog the opportunity to be loose in the house when a guest comes through the door. By teaching your dog that when guests come over, he will always have to wear a leash, you'll have more control over the dog. Plus, it’s easier to lightly correct your best friend when he’s wearing a leash.

Dr. Bingham’s Nutrition Corner

We all want the best nutrition for our best friends. With so many options about pet health, figuring out what is truly healthy and what isn’t can be challenging.

The two biggest pet food MYTHS according to
Dr. Allen Bingham, PhD:

1. Fat as an additive is okay.
Many pet foods spray fat on their products to add flavor and palatability — but also because it’s required, due to the high temperature processing and ingredients they use.

All of the fat in super premium Bil-Jac is from natural, fresh chicken and is never added. At Bil-Jac we use so much natural, fresh chicken, in fact, that we don’t need to add fat!

2. Bigger chunks are better.
Bil-Jac Premium Dog Food comes in a smaller size pellet so that we can dehydrate our dry dog food at a lower temperature. This prevents the heat damage that can occur in processing.

Larger chunks mean more heat was needed to dehydrate the final product — and heat damages essential proteins. Our controlled temperature processing is one of the key differences that makes Bil-Jac more nutritious and digestible.
