Mush, Mush! Bil-Jac Gives Back Through the Iditarod Welcome back, Best Friends! Bil-Jac is getting ready for the annual Iditarod in a big way. This year, we're sponsoring special education teacher, Jacinda Yonker, from our hometown of Medina, OH to attend the race and report back to all of her students and all of you.

Bil-Jac loves to bring people and dogs together. We think sending Jacinda is the perfect way to share the Iditarod experience and culture with kids in a fun, interactive learning environment.

Jacinda will be sharing real time updates with video, photos and stories along the trail through Bil-Jac's Twitter, Facebook and Bil-Jac.com. Know a child or family who would also love to follow the Iditarod experience? Invite them to join us. See you on the trail!

For the Love of Bil-Jac

"My name is Coquette and I am a Papillon and a Therapy Dog. I visit disabled kids and adults and I am a bit spoiled. Bil-Jac is the only dry food that I have ever had that I like. I guess I'm fussy. My mom cooks me chicken and oats, carrots, grits and other veggies and was constantly trying natural dry dog food to mix with and I did not like any of them. One day my dog friend Nate came over with some Bil-Jac and I gobbled it up. Now I eat it for breakfast. I gave all of my doggie friends Bil-Jac Liver treats for Christmas this year. They all loved them. Thanks Bil-Jac. Love, Coquette"

Take a Hike - It's National Walk Your Pet Month

January is National Walk Your Pet Month. So, if you and your best friend aren't quite up for doing an Iditarod, no need to worry, just take a walk. It's a fun way for you and your pet to bond, while also getting back in to shape after the holidays. Here are some tips for staying warm, safe and having fun while walking your pet:

  1. If walking at night, be sure to wear bright colored clothing, carry a flashlight and wear reflectors so you're visible to traffic.
  2. Don't forget to hydrate! Even in the cold winter months, you and your dog can get dehydrated on long walks. Always carry a water bottle for you and a small dish for your pooch to take a drink. You can even get a collapsible dish for easy carrying.

What is your dog's New Year Resolution? Whether it's a new trick or shedding a few pounds, just like us, our best friends also have something they'd like to accomplish or improve upon for the new year. Tell us about your best friend's resolution and we'll share it on Twitter and Facebook!

Does Your Pooch have a Pouch? Top Ten Ways for a Healthy Doggie Slim Down

With a bounty of treats, parties and delicious festive food, the holidays can take their toll on your pooch's weight. If your best friend needs to shed a few pounds in the New Year, here are a few things you can do:

  1. Switch to a Reduced Fat Formula: Bil-Jac Reduced Fat can help your dog lose excess weight (or maintain proper weight) while maintaining a beautiful coat and muscle tone ... and dogs love the fresh chicken taste.
  2. Less is More: Bil-Jac Reduced Fat Dog Food is specially formulated to meet your dog's needs. Just follow the feeding recommendations and use a standard-size measuing cup to ensure feeding the right amount. As your dog starts to lose weight, adjust the amount you feed to maintain a healthy weight.
  3. Watch the scraps: During the holidays, your best friend was probably fed more table scraps than usual. Get him back on track by reducing, or we recommend eliminating, that bad habit. Train your tail-wagger to only expect his food, not people food, and put him back on a regular feeding schedule. He'll thank you in the long run!
  4. Take a walk, it is National Walk Your Pet Month after all!: Walking your dog is a great way to get him back in shape and build up endurance. It is also a fun activity you and your dog can do together. For tips on making your walk great, click here.
